Kate Bond creates history with fourth consecutive Senior Best and Fairest

Kate Bond creates history with fourth consecutive Senior Best and Fairest

The name Kate Bond and nine votes have become an unmatched pair over recent years and 2021 was no different, as Kate secured her forth consecutive Senior Women’s Best and Fairest at last weekend’s Vote Count.

In what was one of the closest counts in a while, Kate got out to a lead early with three best on ground performances in the opening month of the season. However, her lead was only slim with Kaitlyn Ritchie breathing down her neck and would take the lead by three votes with one round remaining. In typical Kate Bond fashion, up against a tough outfit she stood up with a strong performance against a premiership contender to ultimately pip Kaitlyn at the post to claim the Best and Fairest honours for season 2021.

Already in the history books as one of the 10 Trobers to win multiple Senior Best and Fairest’s and the only player to win three consecutive and now four consecutive Best and Fairest’s, Kate now equals Club great Mario Bakogiannis for the most Senior Best and Fairest’s won at the Club. Firmly placing herself in discussion as one of the greatest Trobers of all-time.

2021 Senior Women Leaderboard

Successful Season for the Trober Girls Following NFNL Awards Night

Trober Girls clean up at NFL Awards

A big well done to our Senior Women’s Coach Jaryd Coghill who was nominated for Coach of the year. Jaryd led our girls to the finals this season after they finished last on the ladder in 2017. His leadership, positiveness and will to help development our footballers saw a number of our girls being highly recognised for their successful seasons.

At last night’s Northern Football Netball League Presentation Night our girls received eight awards in total. Our senior captain Kate Bond won the Coaches MVP Award on 69 votes, while spearhead Samantha Greene won the League Leading Goal Kicker with 39 goals for the season. Kate Bond also finished runner up in the League Best and Fariest, finishing two votes shy of the winner, Teresa D’Angelo placed third in the same count.

Six of our girls were honoured with making Team of the Year: Emily Turnbull, Half Back Flank; Teresa D’Angelo, Half Forward Flank; Samantha Greene, Centre Half Forward; Kate Bond, Ruck Rover and Steph Castagnini, Interchange for the Division 2 team, along with Claire Henderson making the Division 3 team on the interchange.

Congratulations to all our girls on a great season and those that won awards.
