It was a big win on the road for the boys on the weekend to keep our finals hopes alive. Coming up against the severely undermanned South Mornington it was still very important for the boys get off to a good start and crush the opposition.
A good start is exactly what occurred with La Trobe kicking 15 goals to three in the first half. This was helped with plenty of run and gun off half back from exciting young players Calvin Ross and Will Luhrs.
With the big Ogle clunking everything at full forward the Trobers dominated the game. Ogle kicked four but missed a shitload – which at the end of the day is not surprising at all! Rick Nolan bagged a lazy six as he feasted on what was left of the South Mornington carcass. Bailey Zimmerman and Mitch Oliver were also impressive in front of goal.
The weekend’s game was a relatively bruise-free affair, so the boys will be fresh to take on Masala this week at the Tony Sheehan Oval.

Best Players: J. Lasslett, J. Coghill, J. Horder, L. Cooke, Z. Price, W. Lowry.
‘The Midday Show’ experienced a stiff loss over the weekend against South Mornington going down 101 to 90. South Mornington jumped to an early lead largely due to our inaccurate kicking, and by half time had La Trobe on the back foot with their ability to move quickly and capitalise on the loose ball.
South Mornington found vulnerabilities throughout the Trobers defence and commanded the game, largely due to the influence of their senior players. La Trobe moved the ball well and dictated terms of the game in sections but failed to sustain that momentum throughout the whole game.
During the third quarter La Trobe pushed for a fightback by posting 4 goals straight, ending the quarter only 10 points down. The final quarter went goal for goal with the final margin being 11 points. A disappointing loss!
This weekend La Trobe faces winless Masala on Tony Sheehan Oval. The last time La Trobe and Masala met back in Round 7 Trobers came away with a handy win, but it wasn’t without a fight. La Trobe sits second on the ladder a game clear of 3rd position St Francis Xavier although 3rd, 4th and 5th all sit on 40 points, with healthy percentages.
